Office Hours - Thursday 8/19

Drake was packing up his office, setting Delirium's psychedelic frogs aside for Karla and trying to decide what to do with his framed autographs from Merlin and Arthur. But the music was still cheery -- today's selection included Abbacadabra.

The door was open.

"I can probably handle making jello," Karla mused. "It didn't look that difficult..."

"Hot water, jello packet, cold water," Drake said. "It's easy. Just don't feed them jello shots instead. Next thing you know they'll be partying hard and taking over the bathtub."

"Is there anything else I need to know about them?" Karla asked. "Things they like, things to avoid...? I've never actually had a pet before."

She was a little nervous, honestly.

"Just make sure the tank is filled with clean water, don't let them dry out, don't let them freeze," Drake said. "They're pretty low key when it comes to taking care of them. Don't worry!"

Karla was going to worry. Just a bit.

"Clean water, no drying, no freezing," Karla repeated, nodding. "I can do that."

These frogs were going to be spoiled. Artisian, filtered water, warming spells, the works.

"They're pretty quiet most of the time," Drake said. "But since they were created by Delirium, you never know what might happen."

Karla was going to buy them a little froggy palace, honestly. "I'll take care of them," she assured him. "Promise."

"I know," Drake said simply. "I don't even have to threaten you about coming back from the grave and singing Britney Spears, like I did Kennedy."

"Who's Britney Spears?"

Oh, Karla, no. Just no.

Drake grinned and snapped his fingers to conjure up a mike and music.

Karla shook her head. "I know a little Metallica?" she offered.

"I should've known you were a closet headbanger," Drake said, vanishing the microphone. "You should sing at Caritas with me."

"I heard a song of theirs once and I liked it. It had guitars so I asked Jono what it was, because he knows all the guitar songs."

All of them, yes.

"Sing at Caritas?"

"Sunday night, Caritas," Drake said. "I want singing and celebrating. Call it a last request."

"Will you drink with me?" Karla asked. "I have a bottle of fine Kaeleeran red I...liberated from Hobart's cellars."

"Of course," Drake said. "As long as you promise you won't be driving a rickshaw home."

The side of Karla's mouth kicked up in a wry grin. "One of the benefits of wearing a darker Jewel. I can't get drunk unless I really work at it."

"I really shouldn't take that as a challenge," Drake said. "It would be wrong."

"You did mention that you weren't a teacher any longer..." Karla pointed out.

"True," Drake mused. "Not like anyone can fire me now."

[glacial_queen]

"You can always say you were teaching me the follies of hubris?" Karla added helpfully.

[carpe_demon]

"Got someone to hold your hair when you start praying to the porcelain god?" Drake asked.

[glacial_queen]

Karla'd never heard that expression before, but it was evocative enough that she understood it well enough--and had to laugh.

"If you get me so drunk that I actually need to throw up?" Karla asked. "I'm not sure what kind of forfeit I'd owe, but it would be a big one."

"I'll even give you a free tip," Drake grinned. "Stay away from the Jägermeister. It's deadly. I've seen it knock grown demons on their asses."

"It sounds rough," Karla said, wrinkling her nose. "Sunday at Caritas, then?"
